The Fruit Basket

The Fruit Basket, based at 2/3 Church Street, is a family owned greengrocers that specialises in local, seasonal produce. Originally set up by Rob Morris and a friend in 1990 at its current location, the shop has grown into a family run operation with Rob’s son Ross also working there full time and another son/brother Aaron also helping out from time to time.

As much as possible The Fruit Basket’s sources their stock locally, in fact Rob grows some of the vegetables that he sells himself; where it can’t be grown or found locally it is sourced from Birmingham’s wholesale market. If there’s a glut of one particular crop, raspberries when I called in, Rob turns him hand to using that glut to make jams and preserves.

Alongside fresh fruit and vegetables the Fruit basket also sells dairy products from Mawley Milk near Cleobury Mortimer, Netherend Farm butter from Gloucestershire, local eggs, home made classic cakes such as Victoria sponge from a local cook, seedling vegetable plants and, come the appropriate season, Christmas trees, wreaths and mistletoe. You can also pick up freshly squeezed orange juice, biscuits and pickles. As well as selling vegetables and fruit to the public they also provide those products to a number of cafés and restaurants in Ludlow and can arrange special orders
